Oncology Training Program

Specialized programs for Physicians and Dentists

'Early detection of cancer' is one of the four pillars of the Cancer Care Programme. The Public Health Team of the Programme, has been working with the communities and frontline health workers for cancer awareness and screening.

Around 70% of the cancer cases get detected late in our country which often leads to long treatment cycles, high treatment costs and affects the patient's quality of life. This also lead to high mortality and morbidity.

Physicians Program

Physicians have a vital role to play in cancer control, from identification of symptoms to screening to diagnosis, management and post-therapeutic surveillance. Strategies are needed that will enable in overcoming the gap between warning signs and delayed diagnosis.

Our Public Health Team has been working with Physicians and conducting training programs on signs, symptoms and early detection of cancer. To strengthen the 'doctor training program' the team has collaborated with Omnicuris, an online training platform by Niti Aayog, for offering accredited CMEs (Continued Medical Education Sessions) across specialties.

The training program is supported by an Independent Education Grant by Pfizer.

The Oncology Training Program is being conducted by experts from prestigious institutes and provides the incumbent doctors with in-depth understanding on:

  • – Unit 1: Introduction, Risk Factors, Natural History, Prevention, And Early Detection
  • – Unit 2: Overview of Diagnosis and Management
  • – Unit 3: Overview of Common Cancers
  • – Unit 4: Palliative Care
  • – Unit 5: Cancer Control

The Oncology Training Program is free and the physicians attending the above five units will be eligible for a certificate and credit points from their respective 'State Medical Council.'

The physicians program spanning August 2022 to February 2023 and will be conducted every Saturday from 3pm – 4pm.

Dentists Program

Oral Cancer is one of the most common cancer types. India has a huge burden of oral cancer and most of the cases are often presented in later stages adding to the disease related mortality and morbidity. One of the reasons for this is because the symptoms often go unaddressed and/or misdiagnosed in the early stages - ultimately leading to a progression of the disease.

Accurate clinical recognition and evaluation of oral mucosal lesions can detect up to 99% of oral cancers/pre-malignancies – and hence can help improve mortality rates.

The 12 modules series, especially designed for dentists, will empower the clinicians in oral cancer diagnosis and management and will span from September to December 2022 and will be conducted every Saturday from 4.30 pm – 5.30 pm.
