Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital, Varanasi - Tata Cancer Care Foundation

The Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital Varanasi (HBCH Varanasi) was formerly known as the Indian Railways Cancer Institute & Research Center Varanasi Uttar Pradesh (IRCIRC). Established in 1984 by the North Eastern Railway (NER), IRCIRC aimed to provide specialised cancer care services to railway employees and their families.

Transformation into Homi Bhabha Hospital Varanasi

In 2017, the North Eastern Railway, on behalf of Indian Railways, entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai. This collaboration aimed to significantly upgrade the cancer care services and facilities at the Tata Cancer Hospital Varanasi.

Through an accelerated process of renovation, extension, and advanced equipment induction, a swift and impactful transformation took place.

Within a short span of six months, the Banaras cancer hospital emerged as a new and improved center – the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital in Varanasi. This project was made possible by the generous support of Tata Trusts and implemented by the Tata Cancer Care Foundation.

North Eastern Railway (NER) employees and their dependents
Residents of Varanasi and surrounding regions
Patients with a special focus on childhood cancers and adult liquid malignancies, including Bone Marrow Transplant facilities
