Swasth Chandrapur

Who we are

Swasth Chandrapur, is a Screening and Awareness Kiosk at Government Medical College (GMC), Chandrapur. The kiosk has been set-up by the Chandrapur Cancer Care Foundation (CCCF); a special purpose vehicle set-up by Tata Trusts, Government of Maharashtra, Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER), and District Mineral Foundation (DMF).

The kiosk offers free of cost screening for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs): diabetes, hypertension, and oral, breast and cervical cancers; along with a general health check-up to OPD and IPD patients, along with their caregivers and visitors.

The 'Swasth Kiosks' are being set-up in the heavy footfall areas of Medical College Hospitals, leading to maximum patients and their visitors and caregivers benefitting from the services. As of date, six kiosks are operational in Assam, one each in Ranchi, Jharkhand, Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh and Chandrapur, Maharashtra with a few more in the pipeline.

What we do

The state of Maharashtra has a high incidence rate of cancer at 80 people per one lakh. Cancers of the breast, cervix and colon are the primary cancers among women, and lung, oral cavity and oesophageal are the primary cancers among men. Most of these cancers can be easily detected with regular screenings.

According to ICMR, NCDs form 63% of the overall disease burden of the state of Maharashtra and the risk of death due to NCDs begin to increase from the age of 30. The rise of NCDs has been driven by primarily four major risk factors: tobacco use, physical inactivity, harmful use of alcohol and unhealthy diet. The beneficiaries will be offered health advisory services on lifestyle, nutrition, menstrual health, maternal and child health, and varied health-related topics in an easy to understand manner.

The screening services at 'Swasth Chandrapur' will enable in identifying seemingly healthy people suffering from NCDs who may otherwise be unaware of their condition. With early detection of NCDs, and easily identifiable cancers, it is possible to treat patients, save lives, reduce treatment related expenses and improve quality of life.
