LOOKING FORWARD
Launching an academic course in histotechnology in partnership with educational institutes in Mumbai is a strategic move.
Histotechnology plays a crucial role in cancer diagnosis, yet existing diploma courses in medical laboratory technology
(DMLT) only provides a surface-level understanding of histo/cytotechnology, often lacking practical training. While
informal short-term training options exist, there is a noticeable absence of a structured training course. Introducing
specialised Diploma and MSc courses in Histotechnology will not only benefit our centres but also contribute to the
broader histotech community. This hybrid course, in alignment with the guidelines of the National Education Policy 2020,
will incorporate both online and o ine lectures, complemented by onsite practical classes and examinations.
Recognising the growing demand for various tests in molecular pathology, the expansion of COP’s test menu is a strategic
initiative. Addressing this surge in demand will not only optimise the utilisation of existing machinery but also align with
the evolving needs of the field, making the Centre stay at the forefront of molecular pathology services.
