About Tata Cancer Care Foundation (TCCF)

The Tata Trusts have been pioneers in developing super specialty cancer hospitals in India since 1941. To strengthen cancer care in underserved areas and to promote prevention and early detection of cancers, the Trusts have embarked on a first-of-its-kind large-scale public health programme.

Established in 2017, Tata Cancer Care Foundation (TCCF, formerly know as Alamelu Charitable Foundation) is a Section 8, not-for-profit entity. TCCF has been set up to implement the ambitious Cancer Care Initiative of the Trusts. It will ensure affordable, high-quality healthcare and cancer treatment to millions of Indians, closer to their homes, through state-of-the-art oncology centres.

Affordable, high-quality
healthcare to millions of Indians

We are now looking at utilising our resources, our skills and our vision to address issues and needs that have been largely ignored.

Late Ratan N. Tata, Tata Trusts

Message from the Chief Executive

Every person diagnosed with cancer enters a world of uncertainty. What they need in that moment is not only treatment, but confidence - confidence that they will be diagnosed correctly, treated with dignity, and supported without having to navigate the burden alone.

Over the years, as a cancer surgeon, I have seen both the possibilities and the gaps in our healthcare system. I have seen what expert care can achieve, but I have also seen how often distance, delay, affordability, and uneven access stand between a patient and the care they need. That reality is what makes the work of Tata Cancer Care Foundation deeply important.

Our purpose is not simply to build institutions. It is to build access. It is to ensure that high-quality cancer care does not remain limited to a few centres, a few cities, or a few who can afford to travel long distances in search of treatment. We believe that care must move closer to the patient: thoughtfully, responsibly, and without compromising on quality.

At Tata Cancer Care Foundation, we are working to strengthen the cancer care journey in a way that is practical, humane, and scalable. This means investing not only in hospitals, but also in early detection, diagnostics, technology, training, partnerships, and the systems that make continuity of care possible. Real impact is created when good medicine is supported by good infrastructure, good processes, and a deep respect for the patient’s experience.

What gives me hope is that change in cancer care does not come from one breakthrough alone. It comes from sustained commitment - from doctors, nurses, technicians, administrators, partners, and communities all moving in the same direction. It comes from building networks of trust and excellence that can serve people where they are.

Tata Cancer Care Foundation has been created with that long-term vision. While we recognise that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, we are delighted with the objective and visible strides TCCF has taken in Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Maharashtra, and Odisha. Our commitment is to help shape a future in which cancer care in India is not defined by geography or privilege, but by fairness, quality, and compassion.

We know the need is great. We also know that meaningful change is possible when intent is matched by action. That is the journey we are on, and we invite you to be a part of it.

Dr. Shailesh V. Shrikhande
Chief Executive
