ESTABLISHING ANCILLARY UNITS

                  • Dharamshala – The majority of cancer care is delivered on an ‘outpatient’ basis, the treatment may take several weeks or months.
Generally, a cancer patient undergoes multiple radiotherapy sessions spanning weeks in a radical setting. This requires the patient and
caregiver to stay at the place of treatment to ensure a smooth flow of the treatment. A chemotherapy session on an average spans over 4
to 6 months. Very often, a single chemotherapy session is spread over many days and administered in outpatient/daycare settings. Patients
are often reluctant to seek medical care in cities due to the high costs of treatment and failure to find a ordable accommodation during the
treatment. Owing to its chronic nature and expensive treatment, out-of-pocket expenditure (OOPE) is the highest for cancer. OOPE on
cancer is about 2.5 times the overall average hospitalisation expenses. In the absence of a ordable options, many patients and their relatives
are forced to stay in unhygienic conditions, which can further worsen their health. Such a situation often forces many families to abandon
continuity treatment and return to their hometown.

TCCF plans to set up accommodation called ‘Swasthya Bhavan’ for patients
and their caregivers during the treatment cycle. The aim is to ensure that
patients do not have to worry about finding a ordable and hygienic stays and
instead can focus on the treatment and recovery plan. The supported
accommodation services also present an opportunity for patients and their
caregivers to interact with other patients and their caregivers and derive
psycho-social support, through counselling, relaxation activities, etc.

Accommodation for Medical Personnel (Doctors and Nurses) - To provide the
Doctors, nurses and other sta with a secure and motivating environment which
will help to retain sta and maintain the quality of services being provided.

Equipping for Community Outreach Programme Phase 2 TCCF welcomes
