OVERVIEW
As per the Indian Council of Medical Research, almost half (48%)
of Jharkhand's health challenges stem from non-communicable
diseases (NCDs). There is a growing trend of individuals above
30 succumbing to these ailments, adding to the overall disease
burden of the state. To complicate matters, cancer has emerged
as a formidable threat in the state, with a prevalence of 70 cases
per one lakh people and a distressingly high mortality rate.
THE JHARKHAND MODEL
To tackle the healthcare hurdles in Jharkhand, Tata Trusts and the
Jharkhand Government have joined forces. This collaborative
endeavour has led to the establishment of the Ranchi Cancer
Hospital and Research Centre (RCHRC) in the state capital. This
cutting-edge facility has 82 specialised beds and is spearheaded
by the Tata Cancer Care Foundation.

Adding to its extensive facilities, RCHRC has a fully equipped
RCHRC has a broad mission to deliver a complete spectrum of
cancer care services. This encompasses not only diagnosis and
treatment but also extends to management, palliative care, and
post-care support. Going beyond the confines of Ranchi, the
hospital opened its doors to individuals from neighbouring
districts and states in September 2022. Significantly, it ensures
a ordability by o ering highly subsidised treatment at Central
Government Health Scheme (CGHS) rates for all patients. With
the best technology at its disposal, the hospital is sta ed by a
dedicated team of highly trained doctors, nurses, and support
sta , all driven by a shared commitment to providing optimal
care to every patient.
The hospital takes pride in its outstanding infrastructure,
featuring three cutting-edge modular operation theatres, a
designated post-operative area, an isolation room, and a
well-equipped Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Among its standout
facilities are a state-of-the-art chemotherapy daycare area, and a
radiation oncology department equipped with an advanced
Truebeam Linear Accelerator and a Treatment Planning System
and Brachytherapy. Additionally, the hospital houses a 5-bed
palliative care ward, with specialised doctors and nurses,
ensuring comprehensive and high-quality care for patients
throughout their treatment journey.

to set up a PET CT system in phase 2. Moreover, the hospital

Haematology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Microbiology,
Histopathology, Frozen Section, and Immunohistochemistry.
COLLABORATING TOWARDS A CANCER-FREE JHARKHAND
In a strategic partnership with the National Health Mission,
RCHRC is dedicated to the early detection of cancer. A
specialised outreach team is actively engaged in three districts
of the state, operating in collaboration with Primary Health
Centres (PHC) and Health and Wellness Centres (HWC). Their
mission includes raising awareness and encouraging
communities to prioritise health and undergo cancer screening.
Moreover, the team provides training to frontline health workers,
empowering them to conduct e ective cancer screening
sessions. This collaborative e ort aims to enhance the reach of
early detection initiatives and promote a proactive approach to
healthcare in the community.
